Starting time for Sunday morning services

  • Services at St Giles
For a trial period of six months, from 4 January 2004, the morning service at St Giles begins at 9.30am This is being done, so as to enable both Mountnessing and Margaretting (where adjustments are also being made) to see as much of Frances on Sunday mornings as possible. This will be reviewed at the end of June.

Recent Events

March 2004

The Auction

This was held in March and proved a highly enjoyable event for all concerned.

Thanks are due to all who supported the event, and those who worked so hard to organise it and make it happen.

February 2004

Songs of Praise 2004 - Part 1

The first 'Songs of Praise' for 2004 was held in St John's (pictured right) and gathered together a surprisingly large number of people to sing and share reminisences and quotations.

Due to a rather spectacular but unscheduled display of pyrotechnics from the overhead projector, the hymns were chosen 'on the fly' by those involved, which was harsh for the organist (Claire, also picured right) but huge fun for everyone else.

It was a magical afternoon - another is planned for the Spring (see 'forthcoming events' above for details as they emerge) where we will join once again to sing .

Patrick Appleford visits

It was with great delight that we welcomed Canon Patrick Appleford to the church in February - through his long career he has many remarkable achievements to his name, but is probably best known as the most outstanding hymnwriter of his generation.

Canon Appleford is pictured right with our Priest-in-charge, Rvd. Frances Drake, and our Reader, Derek Bevan.

January 2004

Rona leaves St Giles

During January a presentation was made to Rona to thank her for all she has done for the church over the years - she has moved away and is very deeply missed.

Rona is pictured right with her husband, David.
